MMA Debut, July 18, 2009 UEP LIVE 4: Vendetta

This past Saturday I made my MMA debut in Daphne, Alabama for Ultimate Event Promotions. It was their fourth event and is already a major local promotion. I was very honored to be part of such a great show. I was third on the card, which held 17 fights, along with 4 title fights to crown the inaguaral champs for the promotion. My fight was a case of strength vs technique. Coming into the fight, I was outweighed by 10-15 lbs. Strength and size definately wasn't on my side. But It didn't phase me. In the first round he attempted a guillotine choke, but I was able to fight it off and eventually find my way to mount. He fought out of mount, but then gave me his back and I was unable to finish a rear naked choke. After being unable to finish in the first round, I came out in the second looking to finish. After surviving a takedown and forcing it back to the feet, I was able to land a straight right that dropped my guy, then finished with strikes from the top. It was definately the highlight of my short life to say the least. It's something I look to build on from here on out, on my way to gaining a shot at the 135 lb crown.
